Dr. Paul Nash
Dr. Paul Nash has degrees in Chemistry and Biological Science from UC Irvine and a Ph.D. in Polymer Science & Engineering from the University of Akron. Early in his career, he worked six years in the appliance industry for Frigidaire Company before transitioning to Hewlett Packard, where he has spent the last 30 years specializing in Polymer Science and Sustainability for HP Inkjet Printing Applications. Dr. Nash maintains a busy schedule as a faculty member at four universities, where he teaches Polymer Science courses to graduate students, and has been a member of the Cinova Medical Scientific Advisory Board since 2023, where he advises Cinova’s global medical device customers on materials selection, troubleshooting, and custom formulations for specific medical device or drug delivery applications.

The Growing Concern over PFAS: What's the Path Forward?
The medical device industry seeks materials that offer specific, beneficial characteristics depending on the application. Some of these substances, however, contain PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances), also known as “forever chemicals.” These additives have garnered the attention of the EPA as well as organizations in the EU. As such, concerns have grown over their use and future availability. While medical devices may maintain access to them through an exemption, supply challenges could still be an issue. This session will discuss these materials, what the impact to device makers who use them could be, and what the future may hold for them.
