Jörg Purkhart
Jörg Purkhart is a data scientist at Weidmann Medical Technology, where he works at the intersection of customers, production, quality, and suppliers. He develops data models for process digitalization, advances measurement and testing systems, applies statistical methods and artificial intelligence, and implements Six Sigma projects to optimize manufacturing processes. His multidisciplinary background spans data technology, forestry, geomatics, and statistics, complemented by further training in Six Sigma and artificial intelligence. Before moving into medical plastics, he worked in cartography, aerial and satellite image analysis, and measurement image analysis for advanced optical inspection systems in the pharmaceutical industry. Today, Purkhart uses complex production and quality data to identify process variations, improve process robustness and efficiency, and support reliable decision-making in regulated manufacturing environments.

AI and Automation on the Production Floor
Most organizations recognize artificial intelligence (AI) can help improve processes and procedures, but still remain uncertain on how to implement it effectively. As a result, there are still reservations about incorporating it into a company’s manufacturing protocols. The panel for this session will attempt to alleviate common fears with using AI, eliminate misconceptions, and provide early steps for adoption. Targeting low-hanging fruit areas, the panel will offer best practices and important considerations that must be addressed before moving further into adoption.
